Travel guide

Travel abroad for a week with shoestring student budget, get to know people all around Europe? Yes, easily!

  1. Find an event from eestec.net
  2. Fill in the application
  3. Wait for the organizer to announce the participants
  4. Buy plane tickets (or hitchhike) to the destination
  5. Enjoy!

EESTEC events can be categorized as follows: Workshops and Exchanges. Both of these include “everything necessary” for a student budget: Free accommodations, three meals a day (at least one warm), transition from place to place (and parties pretty much every night). Workshops also include an academic part that makes you eligible for student points, ECTS’s. The exchanges may include an additional fee but this is more rare. So, your trip is basically free if you happen to find a way to hitchhike to the destination country! Small budget is of course required for additional snacks, drinks, and souvenirs.

The events are organized as per EESTEC RoP, Rules of Procedure, that states e.g. that the organizers must announce the participants four weeks prior o the start of the event.

You can apply for the events at eestec.net. The participant choosing criteria aims for a varied geographical and gender distribution, making it easy for Finns (LC Helsinki, LC Tampere) to apply for the events as we do not have that many applicants from our country. There are no special requirements for applying events – Go and adventure!

The event application process of LC Helsinki is following:

  1. Spot a great event from our mailing list, your guild advertisements or https://eestec.net/events/
  2. Register to https://eestec.net/
  3. Open the event subpage and fill out the application by pushing “Apply now!”
    • The application usually contains so called Motivational Letter where you are discussing why the organizers should choose you to the event. Your adventurous lifestyle and desire to meet new people will do just fine.
  4. Inform the LC Helsinki board by email: eestec-board(ät)list.ayy.fi.
    • We will confirm you to be a LC member to the organizers. Not anyone can apply, you have to be an LC member. All ELEC-guilds and TiK members are automatically members of LC Helsinki, there are no separate payments!
  5. Wait until the participant list is announced before purchasing your plane tickets.
    • The organizers may confirm you earlier if you want to buy the tickets in advance: Contact the organizing club directly or LC Helsinki members (we may know the people and can ask these details.)
  6. You will receive details about the event
    • The organizers will probably pick you up from the airport to your hostel or other accommodation, or at least will give you a contact person who will make sure everything is ok with you.
  7. Travel to the event and Enjoy!

In addition to enjoying yourself, LC Helsinki highly appreciates if you can also do to following:

We might deduct 10 % from first-timer plane tickets if the pictures and articles are good (and we have budget left)! 🙂

Have fun!

Please contact the board via eestec-board(ät)list.ayy.fi if you have additional questions. Thank you!
